We’re really sorry, but the Grimshaw exhibition in the Art Gallery and the West Wing of the Rotunda Museum are currently closed due to water leaks following recent heavy rainfall. We’re working to open them again as soon as possible – thanks for your understanding.

Seaside Heritage

Open Tuesday - Sunday | 10am - 5pm Free with an Annual Pass (£3 / Free under 18s)

A display of taxidermy seabirds, a herring gull is in the foreground

Step back in time and learn about Scarborough’s fascinating seaside heritage. Explore a range of objects including paintings, photographs, social history and taxidermy that recall an era of deckchairs dozing, ice cream treats, bathing machines and walking expeditions along the glorious Yorkshire coast.

This display is the first step in transforming the entire top floor of the Art Gallery into a multi-sensory seaside experience.

This exhibition is located on the first floor of the gallery. There are 23 steps to this floor and at the moment we do not have a lift to access this level.

Toilets are located on the first floor and are accessed via the stairs. There is an accessible toilet next door, a short distance away, at Woodend Gallery and Studios.
