8 January 2024—3 March 2025Monday - Friday | 10am – 5pmFREE

Sitwell Café Gallery, Woodend Gallery and Studios

A fresh new display of works by Woodend studio tenant, Lindsey Tyson.

The second in a series of exhibitions celebrating local artists and creatives, in this display you’ll see panoramic mixed media abstract seascapes expressing the energy, mood and atmosphere of the Scarborough sea. Including works  ‘Monday’, ‘Tuesday’ and ‘Thursday‘, part of Lindsey’s award winning encaustic wax series, inspired by her walks to the studio, and her ‘Summer Rain’ series.

Lindsey Tyson is an award-winning mixed media abstract artist whose work is inspired by her surroundings – from mundane road markings to moody landscapes.

A former textile designer, Lindsey enjoys the tactile and kinaesthetic qualities of mixing various media, embracing happy accidents and the uncontrollable nature of her materials.

Lindsey’s abstract paintings are a soulful expression of the inherent energy and shapes found in the Yorkshire landscape and environment, especially her home town of Scarborough.

For over fifteen years, Lindsey has been a part of the creative community at Woodend, where her studio is based. A former textile designer, Lindsey enjoys the tactile and kinaesthetic qualities of mixing various media, embracing the ‘happy accidents’ and the uncontrollable nature of her materials.

Due to the complexities of surface and texture in her work, Lindsey uses a limited colour palette to express and capture the atmosphere and dramatic nature of her surroundings.

Her style is intuitive and expressive; her aim is to paint authentically, conveying her own unique artistic perspective.
